Twenty Minutes with Nature

I started a new project at the end of April. I was going to say “somewhere around the end of April” which would be stupid because this project is a daily, dated, drawing project. I started a new project on exactly April 25th which has become sort of my daily meditation.

Basically I was getting frustrated about being inside an office all day at my job. It’s a reality of my job that is never going to go away so I needed a way to handle that in a healthy way and that led me to daily art, which then led me to a daily connection with nature and the project was born. Everyday (usually first thing in the morning) I do a 20 minute painting of some aspect of nature. I usually alternate between flora and fauna because I needed to challenge myself to connect to flora a little more. I could draw birds all the time forever but I also want to grow and I love flowers and plants, even if I’m not great at drawing them.

Sometimes I had notes, sometimes I just have the drawing but it’s a really great way for my brain to concentrate on the natural world for at least 20 minutes a day. They’re posted daily at http://klancashire.com/twenty-minutes-with-nature and I also group them every four days to post on Instagram/Facebook.

I hope you enjoy them because I enjoy doing them and can’t really imagine my days without them at this point. We’ll see how long I go though, I’m not going to say for sure that “I’ll definitely be doing this for at least a year” because that’s a good way to kill something dead. So enjoy them while they last? Sure.
